Cat6 Shielded RJ45 Connector with 1.2 mm Wire Hole: Pure Copper FTP/STP Modular Plug for 23 AWG Shielded Cable
The Prounta Cat6 shielded RJ45 connector is a fully metal-shelled 8P8C modular plug built around an enlarged 1.2 mm wire hole, the dimension that decides whether a 23 AWG shielded Ethernet cable terminates cleanly or fails on the bench. Standard plugs are bored at 1.0–1.1 mm and were designed for thin 24–26 AWG UTP; force a thick-insulation shielded conductor into them and the wire stops short of the contact blade, deforms the insulation, or splits the housing. This plug solves that with a wider channel, pure copper 50µ” gold-plated contacts, a nickel-plated copper shield can and a two-piece load-bar structure. Every batch is Fluke DSX-8000 tested, custom logo marking is available, and free samples ship worldwide before you place an order.
Why the 1.2 mm Wire Hole Matters
Cable category alone does not tell you which plug to buy — the insulated conductor outside diameter does. Shielded Cat6 and Cat6A cable in 23 AWG typically carries an insulation OD of 1.08 to 1.16 mm, and direct-burial or LSZH variants can run to the top of that band. A 1.2 mm bore gives the clearance those conductors need to seat fully against the IDC blade without shaving the insulation. The practical result is fewer opens, fewer marginal NEXT readings and far less scrap during patch-cord production. Before ordering, measure your conductor with calipers: choose 1.2 mm for 1.08–1.16 mm insulation, and step down to a 1.0–1.1 mm plug for thinner 24–26 AWG cable such as our standard Cat6 UTP modular plug. Getting this one number right eliminates the most common cause of field termination failure.
Full Metal Shielding and Reliable Ground Continuity
Shielded cabling only performs if the shield stays continuous end to end. This connector’s nickel-plated pure copper shell wraps the entire plug body and makes positive contact with the cable’s foil or braid at the rear, then transfers that path to the shielded jack’s spring fingers at the front. The result is a genuine 360° screen against electromagnetic interference from fluorescent ballasts, variable-frequency drives, elevator motors and parallel power runs — the environments where UTP links start logging CRC errors. For heavy industrial noise or 10G/40G backbone work, step up to our Cat6A and Cat8 shielded plug range, or consider the Cat6A STP/FTP metal shell plug. Remember that shielding must be bonded and grounded at the rack end to work as designed; an ungrounded screen can act as an antenna instead of a barrier.

Custom Logo, Private Label and OEM Packaging
Distributors and cabling brands can ship this plug under their own name. We provide laser marking or mold-engraved logos on the shell, custom-coloured strain relief boots for cable identification, and complete retail packaging — poly bags, screw-top jars, blister cards, colour boxes and master cartons printed with your barcode and SKU. Engineering drawings and 3D renderings are approved with you before tooling. Applications
Shielded structured cabling in data centres, hospitals and airports; IP surveillance and PoE++ camera drops running beside power conduit; factory-floor and PLC networks exposed to VFD noise; broadcast and AV-over-IP installations; direct-burial and outdoor links; and shielded patch-cord manufacturing. Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I need the 1.2 mm version? Strip a short length of cable and measure one insulated conductor with calipers. If it reads 1.08–1.16 mm, this plug is correct. Below roughly 1.06 mm, a 1.0–1.1 mm plug will grip better.
Does the larger hole hurt Cat6 performance? No. The bore is sized to the conductor, and contact geometry and pair spacing are unchanged, so terminations still meet Cat6 NEXT and return-loss limits under Fluke permanent-link testing.
Which crimp tool should I use? Any standard 8P8C ratchet crimper. This is a closed-end plug, not a pass-through type, so no flush-cut blade is needed — if you prefer feed-through termination, use our pass-through RJ45 plugs instead.
Can it be used on unshielded cable? Mechanically yes, but the metal shell only delivers value with screened cable and shielded jacks. On UTP runs choose an unshielded plug to avoid an ungrounded floating shield. Background on the connector family and the cable standard is available via modular connector and Category 6 cable.
Do you offer free samples? Yes. Verified business buyers receive a free sample kit and pay courier cost only, credited back on the first order. Contact our engineers for samples, drawings or bulk pricing, or browse the complete RJ45 connector catalogue.
